Our Lady of Victory school provides Grade 4-8 students with the opportunity to play development and competitive level sports in volleyball, basketball, soccer, badminton, and track & field.  Our coaches help student-athletes of all abilities to reach their full potential in athletics.  Student-athletes begin competition in Track & Field in Grade 4.  Inter-school sports start in Grade 5 with Basketball and Cross-Country Running.  Once a student is in Grade 6, they are able to play inter-school sports in the MCSAA leagues for Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Soccer, and Track & Field.

OLV is a member of the Manitoba Catholic Schools Athletic Association (MCSAA) and the OLV Thunder play all their league games within the city of Winnipeg.  The Thunder are able to play their home games and host tournaments at the OLV Gym.  Click to visit the MCSAA website.

Over the past three seasons, OLV coaches and staff have worked tirelessly to improve our athletic program to the highest standard against other competition in the MCSAA.  We use the LTAD (Long-Term Athlete Development) Program to train our student-athletes how to Train for Fun, Train to Train, and Train to Win for not only their particular sport, but also in their lives after they leave OLV.

At OLV, we are very proud of our athletic accomplishments over the last 30 years of our program's existence.  Here are the following MCSAA Championships Our Lady of Victory has won:

Phys. Ed.

At OLV, the purpose of our Physical Education program is to teach the whole student, not just their body and movement. Our program teaches students fair play, cooperation, and sportsmanship. We encourage positive attitudes in the gym as well as a positive team and school spirit. Our program also allows students to participate in physical activity for 30 minutes or more every day. We believe in teaching the whole student, including how to be a Christ-like example in their actions.

At Our Lady of Victory School, our Physical Education program is diverse and appealing to all students. We take advantage of our full sized gymnasium to implement our program. Our program is tailored towards developing the basic movement skills in the younger grade levels. As students progress through the grades, their practice of these basic skills will improve. These basic skills including: running, jumping, skipping, hopping, galloping, catching, throwing, kicking, striking, rolling, static balance, and dynamic balance.

We believe that practice can help a student become better, but that in order to improve, the student must understand why they are practicing these skills. Once they progress to the older grades, they put those skills to use in more sport/team-oriented game situations, including:

  •  Floor Hockey
  • Volleyball
  • Lacrosse
  •  Team Handball
  • Soccer
  • Baseball
  •  Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Orienteering

Intramural sports/games are also available during the lunch period. Intramurals are open to all students from Grades 1-8 and are officiated by the Grade 7/8 Intramural Committee on a volunteer basis. Intramurals are very popular and change every month. Our intramural program provides older students with the opportunity to practice leadership skills and teach teamwork skills to younger students. It also provides the opportunity to have older students experience how to be in charge and officiate different games and sports. The sport/games are divided between Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-8 and include the following sports/games:

  • Dodgeball
  • Basketball
  • Ultimate
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Handball
  • Speed Stacking
  • Indoor Soccer
  • Badminton
  • Free Throw Shooting
